In this fast-paced, stressful world we live in, it can become easy to get caught up in our heads and start feeling down about our lives.
But, positive thinking and a positive mindset offers us some hope out of that way of thought.
Our minds can either become our best friends or our worst enemies when life gets hard.
In learning how to keep a positive mindset, we can dramatically improve and regulate our mental and emotional well-being.
This can allow us to thrive in all aspects of our life, from our physical health, to our relationships, to our overall quality of the life we’re living.
After all, life really is what we make it. We can choose to focus on the good in our life, or we can choose to focus on the bad.
But, whatever we focus on, is what’s going to seem more prominent in our lives.
If there’s one thing I regret in my life up until this point, it’s either having been too stressed out over little things, or not being optimistic enough.
That’s why I’m putting this post together to help both you and me make the right changes in our lives to have a better out look on life.
In this blog post, I am going to help teach you some of the reasons why it’s so important to have a positive mindset. As well as give you advice on how to have a more optimistic and resilient outlook on life.
How is positive thinking beneficial?
1. It helps improve mental health
Thinking positively is one of the main factors linking to improvements in and having good mental health.
Many mental health problems such as anxiety and depression come from constant overthinking and negative thoughts.
So, making a conscious decision to think more positively can help reduce the symptoms of anxiety and depression as well as improve your overall emotional well-being.
2. Greater resilience
A positive mindset prepares you to be more resilient when you’re facing life’s greatest challenges.
By thinking more positively, you’re better able to adapt, cope with set backs, and bounce back from situations that otherwise might’ve held you back.
3. Better physical health
Some research indicates that people who think more positively have better physical health.
I believe that this is because people who think more positively are happier and happier people are more likely to move around more and be more active.
Additionally, happier people tend to be kinder to themselves so they might take their health into consideration more often.
4. Better relationships
Being positive can greatly improve our relationships with everyone around us. Who wouldn’t want to be around someone who is optimistic and thinks positively?
This makes the people around you more optimistic too, which helps to foster stronger connections and better bonds in relationships.
5. Overall better quality of life

If you’re always down about yourself and thinking negatively, where’s the enjoyment in that?
You would have nearly no enjoyment in your life and begin to lose the joy you used to have.
We get so caught up in being successful, what we should have that we don’t have, and focusing on all the bad things happening to us that we forget the actual purpose of life, to enjoy it!
That’s why it’s so important to shift our mindsets around and find the joy in our lives again.
How to begin thinking with a positive mindset
There is no switch you can turn to start thinking positively, especially if you’re someone in the habit of thinking negatively.
So, you have to remember that this is a journey and a process, it’s going to take time and resilience.
But, over time, you’ll find yourself being more and more positive, and before you know it you’ll have shifted into a more optimistic mindset.
Here are some techniques you can use to shift your mindset:
1. Practice gratitude
Begin by starting your day acknowledging what you’re grateful for. You can say physical or non-physical things you’re grateful for, and you can say them out load, into the mirror, or write them in a gratitude journal.
This small habit can begin to shift your focus away from the things you don’t have in life and instead allow you to focus on what you do have.
2. Stand up to your negative thoughts
When you start having negative thoughts, whether they’re about you, you’re life, or anything, start to challenge them.
Ask yourself if these negative thoughts are based on facts or assumptions you’ve made.
Then try and figure out if there are more positive ways to look at the situation than the negative thoughts you were having.
3. Surround yourself with positivity

Your time is valuable, especially in determining your quality of life. Make sure you spend your time around people who uplift and support you.
Being around positive people can make you yourself more positive. In the same way, being around negative people can make you think more negatively.
It’s best to try and avoid people who tend to always be negative.
4. Set realistic goals
Remember, it’s good to set big goals for yourself, but make sure that they’re achievable.
Once you achieve these goals, it’ll give you a sense of accomplishment and fuel your positive shift in life.
5. Practice mindfulness
One great way to practice mindfulness is through meditation. There are so many benefits of meditation, it’s truly life changing for anyone who’s willing to try it.
Practicing mindfulness can help you become more aware of your thoughts and emotions.
This can help you recognize negative thought patterns, and replace them with more positive ones.
6. Positive self-talk
One of the most important parts of having a positive life is to treat yourself with kindness. You have to talk to yourself positively and encouragingly, keep in mind you’re doing the best you can.
So try tour best to avoid self-criticism and bringing yourself down. Instead, focus on the things you like about yourself and strengths that you have.
7. Visualize your success

Visualization is a powerful strategy to help yourself think more positively. Imagine and visualize your goals, dreams, and everything you’ve ever wanted coming true.
This will help to boost your confidence, motivation, and positivity.
8. Embrace the challenges life has for you
Instead of seeing challenges as setbacks and obstacles, shift your thinking to view them as opportunities for growth and learning.
Then, take what you learn from these challenges and apply it to yourself and your life.
We’re going to face obstacles throughout our entire lives, that’s why it’s so important to learn how to start finding a positive out look on all the challenges we encounter.
What you can do now
Remember that positive thinking is not a way of escaping reality and responsibility, but rather a way of focusing on the good side of things in life.
There will always be two sides to everything, the positives and the negatives, but where we decide to focus can have a tremendous impact on our quality of life.
