The importance of having a morning routine, How and why I started my morning routine

The mornings are undoubtedly the most important part of everyone’s day. It’s the first part of your day and will set you off to a good start or a bad start. Instead of leaving the quality of my morning up to chance everyday, sometimes it would be good and other times not so good, I decided to start a morning routine to make sure that everyday started off right.

Why are morning routines uncommon?

I think a lot of people are deterred from having a morning routine because they think it will take too long, don’t want to wake up earlier, and instead insist on rushing through the morning to get out the door. But when we really take a step back and look at it, why would we want to start our days filled with stress?

A morning routine doesn’t have to be long, sometimes mine can be only five minutes! The only requirement for a morning routine is that it has to be a routine, something you do every morning.

I won’t tell you exactly how to make your routine as it is very personalized and something where you will have to figure out what works for you. But I can share with you some tips that I’ve learned that I think will help you when you’re getting started.

How should you start your morning routine?

When first trying to create a morning routine, I think it’s best to try out new and different things. Remember, the goal is to figure out what leaves you feeling the most refreshed and energized.

For me personally, there are some things that I like to rotate in and out of my routine while there are other things that are always and I mean always in my routine.

What are some things that are always a part of my routine?

  1. Drinking water – a nice big glass of water starts my day off hydrated and on the right foot

2. Eating Breakfast – A breakfast packed with proteins, carbs, and fresh fruits leaves me feeling extremely energized and helps prevent me from feeling any type of grogginess in the morning

3. Making my morning cup of coffee – this is my absolute favorite part of my morning, I find it relaxing AND delicious!

4. Getting some fresh air – even if I’m outside for just two minutes in the morning, this still helps to put me in a relaxed state and boost my mood. Just starting my morning off by enjoying nature and taking in the moment has been extremely beneficial to me.

These are the things that I do everyday in my morning routine.

Now, here are some more ideas that I rotate in and out of my routine that you could try out too.

  1. Journaling – you can write down your goals, what you plan for the day, or just anything that’s on your mind.

2. Meditating – this is a great way to clear your mind for the day and help relieve any stresses you may have

3. Yoga/stretching – this helps to relax you while also increasing blood flow and getting your body moving

4. Drinking tea or Lemon water – this is good for people who don’t like the taste of plain water in the morning, or if you just want to mix things up

5. Going for a walk – another great way to get your body moving while also getting some fresh air

6. Getting some fresh air – even if I’m outside for only two minutes in the morning, still this helps to put me in a relaxed state and boost my mood. Just starting my morning off by slowing down and really enjoying nature and taking in the moment has been extremely beneficial to me.
