Making the decision to begin embarking on a wellness journey is a powerful step to begin transforming your life for the better.
Starting my wellness journey was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for myself.
This doesn’t mean there will be no struggles, or setbacks, or times when you really want to quit, believe me you’ll have your fair share of all of these.
But, as time goes on you’ll find your rhythm of things and begin to embrace your new life style and all the amazing improvements that come along with it.
Whether you’re looking to improve your physical health, better your mental health, or find a balance between the two, starting a wellness journey is the first step you should be looking to take.
In no time, your wellness journey is going to become a transformative process in your life.
Here are ten steps that I believe will help guide you to becoming that better version of yourself.
1. Define the goals you have for yourself
Before you start your journey, it’s important to define your goals. This helps you understand what you want for yourself.
You’ll need to define your goals in order to help you understand some of the core factors surrounding a wellness journey.
For example, your goals will determine how you workout and if you should focus on cardio or weight training.
Some of the questions you should ask yourself are do you want to lose weight? Improve your fitness? Reduce your stress? Perhaps improve your mental clarity?
The list goes on and on so it’s important to reflect on what you think is best for you.

2. Start small
One of the biggest mistakes people make when starting their wellness journey is being overly ambitious.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t try to push yourself, you should be trying to set big and ambitious goals for yourself.
The most common mistake people make though is trying to do to much at once, then they try and jump right into things and end up quitting.
Instead of trying to jump in and do big things, try and ease yourself into your goals. Make small changes and small improvements that you can adjust to over time.
By doing this, you’ll be much more likely to stick with it in the long run.
Remember, gradual progress is sustainable progress.
3. Create a wellness plan
Develop yourself a personalized plan that will outline your goals, how you plan to achieve your goals, and in what amount of time you want to achieve them.
For example, you might want write that your goal is to lose three pounds, you’re going to do this by eating healthier and working out, and you want to achieve this goal by the end of the month.
By doing this, you’ll help yourself be much more organized and outline exactly what you need to be doing everyday.
Some things you might want to include in your plan are how you will eat, how much water you’ll drink, your exercise routine, your meditation and mindfulness, and really anything else you want to improve upon.
4. Seek professional guidance
This step is optional, but if you feel like you’re completely lost, you can always look to someone more professional to help you get on the right foot.
For example, you can consult with healthcare professionals, nutritionists, personal trainers, or wellness coaches so you don’t feel completely lost and alone.
5. Prioritize nutrition

Your nutrition is going to become a key aspect of your wellness. Learning things like the difference between macro and micronutrients can help you have a better understanding of the different types of nutrients you should incorporate into your diet.
The best approach to improving your diet is by trying to incorporate more fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains into your daily meals.

6. Incorporate regular exercise
Physical activity is another aspect of wellness that’s extremely important.
You’re going to want to find a form of exercise that supports your goals and that you enjoy. For me, this is weight lifting.
There are so many benefits of weight lifting for woman, and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy, that it’s a no brainer for this to be my go-to exercise style.
But, that doesn’t mean it also has to be for you. You can try things like walking, running, yoga, cycling, swimming, or anything else you can think of that gets you active.
7. Practice mindfulness

When it comes to your wellness journey, mental well-being is just as important as your physical health.
Because of this, it’s important to practice mindfulness. Some of the ways you can practice mindfulness are through meditation, journaling, deep-breathing, or yoga.
Any of these options will help you reduce stress and improve your mental state.
8. Embrace self care
Wellness is not just about your body, it’s also about your mind and soul. Take time for you and the things you enjoy, to nourish all aspects of yourself.
Things like reading, taking baths, and spending time in nature are all things I love to do to draw my attention inward and nourish myself.
Doing this will help you maintain a well balanced, healthy life.
What you can do now
Taking the first steps of your wellness journey are the first steps toward a happier, healthier life.
The best way to approach self-improvement is to start by making small improvements that you can implement everyday. Then, before you know it, you’ll be getting closer and closer to your goals everyday.
The road to a better you is a long one so remember; stay patient, stay positive, and stay committed to yourself. In no time you’ll be closer than ever to where you want to be.
